This work is for the dogs

If you heard that a Builder or Architect provided detail and craftsmanship for the dogs, you probably wouldn’t  let them design or build your home. That’s not the case with this dog project, or should I say Dog House Project. The Laguna Beach Animal Shelter is holding their first annual project pet house auction.

Local Builders and Architects have grouped together to help support the Laguna Animal Shelter by donating their unique designs and craftsmanship. Pictured in this post is The Rascal House that was designed by Daniel Martinez Architect & built by Robert Thomas Carey. Master Builder CA Lic#396167.

This design along with seven other dog houses can be viewed at Tivoli Too in Laguna Beach, California through September 9th . The live auction for the houses will be at the 15th Annual Laguna Beach Pet Parade & Chili Cook-Off on Sunday, September 11, 2011. You can also view these  homes online at the Laguna Beach Animal Shelter first annual project pet house auction website: Laguna Beach Animal Shelter

South Coast Stairworks – California

Don’t let the name fool you, South Coast Stairworks offers a boutique of woodworking. In this picture you will see the highlighted WindsorONE Chair Rail ( WOCH001) that South Coast Stairworks has  added to this beautiful built in shelf and mantel.

South Coast Stairworks also uses an example of beaded sheets in their showcase home along with the WindsorONE T&G bead board to give their clients a view of the detail that achieved from each product. The first picture is a beaded sheet and doesn’t have the the depth or detail that the WindsorONE WOBC6 has in the second photograph..

Dweller West – Update!!!

Update – In June I had the opportunity to tour a project by Dweller West. One of the details that stood out in the landscaping was the living wall made with Woolly Pockets. Dweller West was recently featured as the designer of the month by Woolly pockets for their creation of the living wall. Go to the Woolly Pockets website to learn more about Dweller West use of the Woolly Pockets.

http://www.woollypocket.com/blog/

On my recent trip to Southern California, I had the opportunity to meet with Derrick Muska, Principal for Dweller West and view their renovation of a traditional 1970’s sea ranch home. Dweller’s West design build team was asked to structurally upgrade the residence, as well as redesign the facade of the home.  The final design included the original architectural lines of the rake on the facade that are common throughout this Huntington Beach community. This first picture shows the original facade.

The scope of this project included a full renovation, an additional 853 sq.ft., structural retrofit,  colored-concrete kitchen,  below grade dinning room,  custom steel staircase  w/railing, and two custom wood burning concrete fireplaces.

The traditional scale of the home’s architectural lines was maintained while  the new lines accented a more modern look of this home’s facade. The custom stained IPE siding, milled at Ganahl Lumber, along with the WindsorONE S1S2E fascia and the backside of the WindsorONE  WOBC6 T&G bead boards helped this Dweller West home achieve it’s exterior accents.

Dweller West also focused on the fundamentals of Green building. All timber on this project came from a managed forest. Solar panels were incorporated into this home eliminating the homeowner’s electricity bill. In addition, low water landscape with an emphasis on native plants were incorporated throughout the property.

For more information on Dweller West please visit their website: www.dwellerwest.com

You can also contact their Santa Ana office at: 213-663-6540

My next post will focus on the interior accents of this great project by Dweller West.

Spinnaker Development – Southern California

Spinnaker Development has brought an extensive amount of detail and design to their projects. The work of the design team and the craftsmanship of their builders will not go unnoticed . On my recent visit to Spinnaker Development project in Newport Beach, I had the opportunity to see the making of their new custom home.  This corner lot is a focal point of the neighborhood. A great amount of respect was  given to this established neighborhood by adding a landscaped corner to their job site for the neighbors to enjoy, instead of the iron curtains. It’s also a great way to establish a relationship with the neighborhood for future referrals.

This Newport Beach  project is still under construction and  will be updated with finish photos in a few months. For a full view of Spinnaker Development scope of projects, please visit their web site: http://www.spinndev.com
